Kheema or Qeema is a typical South Asian Dish. Wiki tells us that it is minced meat that can be served with the addition of vegetables or can be used to stuff naans and samosas. It can also be made into kebaks….

I have here today, a kheema made of Soya granules…..

I had half a pack of these Soya granules that I had purchased some time back wanting to include some extra protein in the kid’s diet. But she did not like the chewy texture so the pack just sat there until I wanted to make this recipe for Blogging Marathon 31, Week # 3, themed –  Meatless dishes.

I used:

Soya granules- 1/4 cup
Onion-1 , finely chopped
Tomato-1 finely chopped
Garlic-3 pods, thinly sliced
Ginger paste- 1/2 teaspoon
Sambar powder- 2 teaspoons
Turmeric power- a pinch
Cumin seeds- 1 teaspoons
Curry Leaves- a few
Oil-1 teaspoon
Salt to taste

  1. Soak the soya granules in hot water for at least 15 minutes. Squeeze out the water and keep aside.
  2. Heat a pan with oil and add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  3. When it crackles, add the onion and garlic.Saute till the onion is translucent
  4. Put in the chopped tomato , sambar powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  5. Cook till the tomato is mushy and add 1/4 cup water.
  6. When the mixture thicken, put in the soy granules and mix well
  7. Cook for another 5 minutes and remove from heat….

Serve as a side dish with roti….

Note :

  • You can pulse the soya granules after squeezing out the water to give it an actual kheema feel.
  • Vegetables like peas, potato, carrot, etc, can be boiled and added in step 6
