When we did the A- Z Blogging Marathon last month, I had bookmarked so many recipes. This is one such recipe and I have made this twice already and they have disappeared faster that I bake them!

My kids don’t take fizzy drinks or in other word, I don’t give them fizzy drinks. But when I saw this cup cake recipe, I thought it would be nice thing to bake when you need some cakes to satisfy the kids in a jiffy, so I went for it. It hardly has 5 ingredients and the preparation part gets done even before you the oven gets the pre heated. All in all, you spend just half an hour to get this cake ready!!

I used:Recipe SourceThou Shalt Cook

Preparation time – less than 10 minutes
Baking time – 20 minutes
Makes– 10-12 regular sized cup cakes

{See note below}

All purpose Flour – 1 cup

Sugar – 1/2 cup [Measure and powder]
Orange flavored fizzy drink – 3/4th cup
Salt- 1 teaspoon
Canola oil- 1/3 cup
Choco chips- 1/2 cup + a little for topping

  1. Preheat the oven and line the muffin tray with liners. Take the flour, sugar and salt in a bowl and mix well.

2. Add the oil, fizzy drink and mix gently. Add the choco chips and combine gently. We don’t want to lose the fizz here ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Pour this batter into the liners and top with a few choco chips.Bake at 180 C for 20 minutes . Remove them and cool on a wire rack. Enjoy once cooled…

Note :

  • The first time I used 3/4 cup sugar and it was too sweet for me but the kids loved it. So next time I reduced the quantity of sugar and there was no complaint regarding the sweetness from the kids…
  • Once I used Fanta and the second time I used Miranda to make these cakes.
  • The cake does not rise much. The first time I filled 3/4 of the liners and it rose just a bit. So the next time I filled it a little less that full. You can see how they are now…
  • I had canola oil so I used it.You can use any other vegetable oil.
  • The second time I used Miranda to make this cake and the cake was a little bit salty. This did not happen when I baked it with Fanta. Not sure why though….
  • Oven times vary, so keep checking after 15 minutes and bake till a skewer comes out clean when inserted in the centre of a cake…

If you are wondering about the texture, here is how it looks….

My kids love cup cakes and that is the reason I am sending this to Srivalli’s Kid’s Delight Event – Kid’s delight Party which  is also my theme for week 2 of Blogging Marathon # 33…

Bon Appetit…
