Baked Flaxmeal Whole Wheat Crisps with step by step pictures

When the baking marathon was on mind, even before I signed up, I had a lot of savory bakes planned. But as luck kids would have it, they wanted sweet bakes especially cakes! So I had to give in to their pleas requests.

After satisfying their craving for a while, I got back to my list of savory bakes and did this one because I had a lot of flax seeds sitting in the pantry! Weird reason, right!!Actually I want these ever since I saw them on Lite Bite.

Lil Angel munched on these and Lil dude did not even give it a second glance! But the elder one and me we more than content to share it between us .

I have written a lot about flax seeds, so you can hop over there to read about how good it is for your body and also the ways in which flax seeds can be added in your diet.

Then you can also go over to the food gallery and drool over some recipes with flax seeds as well.

I used:
Adapted from: Lite Bite

Flax seed meal -1/4 cup
Whole wheat flour-1/2 cup
Chili flakes- 1/2 teaspoon
Flax seeds- 1 teaspoon
Sesame seeds- 1 teaspoon
Milk- a few teaspoons as needed
Oil- 2 tablespoons
Baking powder- 1/8 teaspoon
Salt to taste

Mix together the flour, flax meal, chili flakes, flax seeds, sesame seeds, salt, baking powder. Add oil, milk, a little by little and knead to a soft dough. The dough should not be sticky. If it is add a little wheat flour.Take a portion of the dough and flatten it with a rolling pin.Dust the surface with a little flour if needed.

Cut out rectangles and prick holes with a fork.Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake in a pre heated oven at 180 degrees for 10-12 minutes / till the sides start turning brown. Remove from oven and cool on a wore rack. The crisps will be soft as soon as they come out of the oven but will turn crispy after it cools. So don’t be tempted to over bake.

Serve as a snack / store in an air tight container.

Note:

  • Adding whole flax seeds and sesame seeds is optional. But it gives a nice crunch to the crackers. You can add another other chopped nuts / seeds of your choice.
  • You can also bake these a little thicker like cookies. The baking time will differ though.
  • If the crisps are soft even after it cools down, bake for another minute or two.

This is part of the
Bake-a-thon 2015
