I wanted some flax seed meal for a recipe.I saw a jar of the stuff I wanted on the shelf when I went grocery shopping. I picked it up and read the label and saw the price. I almost has a heart attack!!Yes, the price was more than 5 times of flax seeds!!I got flax seeds instead and made the  flax seed meal at home.

This works way better than the store bought one as you can grind just the quantity you want for a recipe and the remaining if any can be mixed in with your idli podi / paruppu podi/ lentil spice mix. And it is very economic as well!!!

And a greater benefit would be that the ground flax seed is better absorbed by the body and hence favors greater nutrient assimilation.

It is not a big deal to make this at home yet I wanted to document it and that’s the reason this recipe is on the blog.

Roast the flax seeds in a pan till nice and toasty. This step is purely optional. I like this flavor so I generally roast it.Spread on a plate and let it cool. Grind in short bursts in a blender and store in an air tight box.

If you are planning to use after a few days, it is better to store the container in the refrigerator.

Bon Appetit….
