While talking about instant / quick breakfast, the first things that come to my mind are idli and dosa. There are several varieties of idli and dosa and many that can be prepared quickly. Instant breakfasts are kinda exciting to try and taste.

One such tasty treat was when I made these instant wheat rawa idlis .Even the kids, who are not huge fans of Idli, liked it with tomato onion chutney.

This easy breezy dish is for Blogging Marathon #59, Week 2, Day 2, with the theme – Instant breakfasts.

I used:

Wheat rawa- 1 1/2 cups
Thick yogurt – 2 cups
Grated carrot- 1/4 cup
Roasted peanuts- a handul
Eno- 1 sachet / 1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Mustard- 1 teaspoon
Oil- 1 teapoon

Take the rawa in a big bowl and add curd/ yogurt. Mix. If it is too thick, add little water to bring it to a thick batter consistency.
Add salt. Heat oil in a small skillet and add mustard seeds. When it pops , pour into the  rawa bowl.
Add carrot and peanuts.

Prepare the steamer.

Mix the batter and add eno and a teaspoon of water over it. It will forth.Mix very gently and pour into the idli plates. Cover and cook till done, around 10 – 15 minutes or when a cake tester / skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve soft fluffy idlis with a chutney of your choice.

Note:

  • I used the traditional idli plate. You can use the regular idli stand / even cook it in a microwave.
  • This idli tastes best when served hot. Pack in hot boxes if planning to send it in the kids lunch box.
  • You can use vegetables like green peas, grated capsicum etc or leave out the veggies all together.
