While it was easy to find dish names for most of the dishes in the Journey Through The Cuisines, where I am doing an A-Z recipe posts through the cuisine of Karnataka, X was sort of out of league for all of us!! I used Fenugreek and Wintermelon- English words for 2 posts and for X, I was very relaxed as I knew what I would be cooking.

It is an Xtra special dish!! Belladha Rave[pronounced Ra-vay],a dish that my dad’s maternal grandmother used to prepare for the grand kids when they visited her place.

It is a sweet dish that can be made in minutes. It has wheat rava and jaggery. Dad always talks about this dish and how he enjoyed eating it. He also remembers the bits of jaggery that used to melt in the heat of the dish and look like honey!!

Back in those days when snacks were all home made and there would be a dozen or so kids as it would be joint family with a whole bunch of relatives visiting often, these kind of dishes got done so fast to feed the hungry ,I would call it the fast food of those days!

Apparently my mom has made this after dad told her about his  favorite dish from his childhood and has made it many times when I was little. So I got the recipe from her which is actually very simple.

For a long ,long time I have been wanting to make this dish and
finally,I knew this was the dish that I will be cooking for X.Yes, it is
indeed xtra special!

I used:

Godhi Rave / Wheat Rava – 1/2 cup
Bella / Jaggery – 1/4 cup [ adjust to taste]
Thengin thuri / Grated coconut – 2 tablespoons
Thuppa / Ghee- 1 teaspoon
Nuts to garnish

Heat ghee in a pan and fry the rava in it till a nice aroma arises. Take care not to burn it.

Add 1 cup of water to the rava and cook till the rava is done and gets fluffy as seen in the pic.

Add the jaggery with a few lumps,[coz that’s what tastes extra delicious!] and mix. Add grated coconut, mix and remove from heat.

Serve garnished with nuts of your choice. I used a few pistachios.

This post also goes to the A-Z Challenge
