Over the past years, I have seen several dishes that calls for pumpkin puree.And that too canned pumpkin puree would have been used. Around here, we don’t get canned pumpkin puree and so in the early years of blogging, I just used to skip those recipes.


Then once I decided to check out if pumpkin puree can be made at home.Yes,and it is quite simple!!

One of the methods involves oven roasting the pumpkin.But I wanted to try another method and looked around.Finally found one that is very simple and here it is!

 

Homemade Pumpkin Puree Recipe

An easy way to make pumpkin puree at home

Ingredients
  • 500 grams Pumpkin
Instructions
  1. Wash the pumpkin and remove the seeds and the stingy parts.Peel and chop the pumpkin into small pieces

  2. Take it in a vessel and add a little water to it

  3. Pressure cook for 10 minutes / 2 whistles.

  4. Once the pressure releases, remove the vessel from the cooker and let it cool

  5. Drain out the excess water and use it in soup / add to stock.

  6. Take the cooked pumpkin in a blender jar and puree.

Recipe Notes
  • You can also cook the pumpkin in the microwave.
  • I have not added salt / any other seasoning while making this puree so that it can be used in sweet / savory recipes.
  • The puree can be frozen in air tight containers.

 

Step by step tutorial:

  1. Take 500grams of pumpkin[or more quantity ,if desired].
  2. Wash well and peel. Remove the seeds and the stringy portions.
  3. Chop finely and take in a vessel
  4. Add very little water and pressure cook for 10 minutes / 2 whistles.
  5. Once the pressure releases, take out the vessel and let the contents cool
  6. Drain the excess water and use it up in soup/ as stock.
  7. Puree the pumpkin and use as needed.

 

Note:

  • You can also cook the pumpkin in the microwave.
