Sweet Poha Chivda | Sweet Aval Mixture Recipe with step by step pictures

A very happy Krishna Janmashtami!


I made a couple of neivedhyam dishes for this festival and then late last night I made one more!!

This sweet dish is undoubtedly one of the most simplest and easiest neivedhyam dishes that can be made in a jiffy!!

A while back I saw this recipe in Hari Chandhana‘s Instagram feed and had bookmarked it. I suddenly remembered this last night and made in within a few minutes! Yes, it is that simple!!No fancy ingredients and it gets done within 10 minutes!

How to prepare Sweet Poha Chivda | Sweet Aval Mixture Recipe:

Heat oil in a kadai / pan and when it is hot , deep fry raisins till they puff up, drain and keep aside. Similarly fry cashews and sliced almonds till golden brown. Drain and keep aside.

To the hot oil, add poha/ aval in batches and fry till they puff up and turn crisp. Drain and spread on a kitchen towel.

While it is still warm, transfer to a bowl. Add powdered sugar, fried raisins and nuts and mix well. Let it cool completely. Store in an air tight container.

Note

  • Adjust the sugar to suit your taste
  • A pinch or two of cardamom powder can be added along with the powdered sugar.
  • Store in an airtight container only after it has cooled completely.

An easy to prepare neivedhyam for Gokulashtami.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Poha / Aval/ Avalakki
  • 3 tablespoons Powdered sugar
  • A handful Raisins
  • 10 numbers each Cashews and almonds, sliced
  • To deep fry Oil
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a kadai / pan and when it is hot , deep fry raisins till they puff up, drain and keep aside. Similarly fry cashews and sliced almonds till golden brown. Drain and keep aside.
  2. To the hot oil, add poha/ aval in batches and fry till they puff up and turn crisp. Drain and spread on a kitchen towel.
