Oats Curd Rice Recipe with step by step pictures

My love for yogurt based dishes, especially curd rice, knows no bounds. I made this simple curd ‘rice’ with Oats a few days back and had it for lunch.

It was different from the regular curd rice rice and yet it tasted good. Will be preparing it more often!

I have used Oats in several dishes and do check out the recipes with Oats when you have time.

Step by step method to prepare Oats Curd Rice

Dry roast 1/4 cup Quick cooking oats .Add just enough water to cook it. Once done, let it cool. Add 3/4 cup thick yogurt and mix.

Add salt to taste. Put in chopped cucumber, grated carrot, coriander leaves, chopped onions and give it a mix.

Heat 1/2 teaspoon oil and add 1/4 teaspoon mustard, 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1/4 teaspoon urad dal and a few curry leaves. Once the cumin crackles and dal turns brown, pour into the oats.Mix well.

Serve with More milagai / sun dried chili / vegetable curry / Pickle

Note:

  • I have added raw onions. If you don;t like the raw flavor of onion, you can skip it / saute it before adding.
  • Increase / decrease the quantity of curd to get the consistency of your choice
  • Red / green chilies can also be added while seasoning the dish.
  • Add curfd / yogurt only after the cooked Oats has cooled down
