This Maavinkai| Raw Mango Raita Recipe is something that I have been wanting to prepare for a long time.


Since I am doing Blogging Marathon #112, Week 3 with the theme – Raitas . I felt this was the best time to try it out.

Amma has been talking about this Maavinkai| Raw Mango Raita Recipe ever since summer started and she has been recollecting grandma’s recipe for the same.

I thought it will be a sort of tribute to my grandma and made this last weekend when I got a few raw mangoes from the vegetable vendor to brings fresh veggies to our area.

This is a no cook raita and tastes really delicious! I paired it with sambar sadham and some pappad.

Here is how to prepare this simple Maavinkai | Raw Mango Raita Recipe

Maavinkai | Raw Mango Raita Recipe

Raita prepared with grated raw mango . It can be a snack by itself or can paired with any flavored rice dishes.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup` Grated raw mango
  • 2 tablespoons Grated coconut
  • 2 cups Fresh Curd / yogurt
  • A pinch Asafoetida Powder
  • 1 no. Green chili chopped and deseeded
  • 1/2 teaspoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves- to garnish
  • Chopped raw mango to garnish optional
  • Red chili powder – to sprinkle on top garnish optional
Instructions
  1. Whisk the curd with salt

  2. Add the grated raw mango ,asafoetida powder and mix

  3. Heat oil in a small pan and add mustard and cumin seeds

  4. When it crackles, add green chilies and remove from heat. Pour over the curd mix

  5. Mix well and serve garnishes with coriander leaves, red chili powder, chopped mango bits.

  1. Oh this reminded me of manga arachu kalakki (salted mango ground with coconut and chilies and then mixed with curd). Itโ€™s a dish my grandma used to make a lot during my dadโ€™s childhood. The raita looks good and perfect side dish for the rice!
