Jowar Roti | Masala Jowar Rotti

A vegan and gluten free Indian flatbread recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Jowar flour
  • 1 cup Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 number cucumber , grated
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons each Tri colored capsicum, chopped
  • Oil to grease sheet
  • Jowar flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Heat water in a pan and add the required quantity of salt. Let it come to a rolling boil. Switch off the heat and immediately add the jowar flour and mix with a spoon.

  2. Transfer it onto a bowl.Cover and set aside till it cools a bit. It should not become cold but let it be luke warm.

  3. Add grated cucumber, chili powder, sesame seeds , colored capsicum, coriander leaves and knead the dough.If it is too sticky add a little more flour.It too dry sprinkle very little water.

  4. Pinch a golf ball sized dough and place it on a greased plastic sheet / butter paper and dusting a little jowar flour, roll out gently into a 4" roti. Gently transfer the rolled our dough onto your hand and turn it over onto a heated griddle.

  5. Cook on both side, flipping over carefully, till light brown spots appear on both side.Remove from griddle and repeat for the remaining dough

  6. Serve with a side of your choice.

Recipe Notes

  • If you find it very difficult to roll it / if the dough is very pasty, add a little whole wheat flour.
  • Adding tri colored capsicum is optional.Use any color available.
  • Chopped onions can be added.
  • I used red jowar to make the flour.You can use the regular white one as well.
  • Store bought flour can also be used.
