Soppina Palya | Keerai Porriyal Recipe

A simple dish of greens with moong dal that goes well as a part of the lunch menu.

Ingredients

  • 1 large bunch Keerai / Amaranth / Greens
  • 1/4 cup Moong dal
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Channa dal
  • 2 numbers Red chilies, broken
  • A pinch Asafortida powder
  • A pinch Turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Wash, clean and chop the green. Microwave for 5 minutes / done, sprinkling very little water.

  2. Meanwhile, take the moong dal in a pan with water and bring to boil. Simmer till the dal is cooked al dente.Drain and keep aside.

  3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard, channa dal, broken red chili and asafoetida powder. 

  4. When the mustard pops, add the cooked greens,turmeric powder,salt and stir. 

  5. Now add the dal and mix to combine. Remove from pan after a couple of minutes.

Recipe Notes

  • In the similar way you can prepare Drumstick leaves stir fry too.
  • A little bit of grated coconut can be added just before taking it off the pan.
  • Cover and cook the dish to retain the nutrients.
