Ribbon Pakoda Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 1/2 cup Besan
  • 1 tablespoon Roasted gram flour
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Hot Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Black sesame seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • A Large pinch Asafoetida powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to deep fry

Instructions

  1. Take the rice flour, besan,powdered roasted gram dal [pottukadalai maavu] , salt, sesame seeds, red chili powder , asafoetida powder in a bowl.

  2. Add butter, hot oil and mix carefully.Add water little by little and make a slightly stiff and non sticky dough

  3. Fit the murukku press with the ribbon pakoda plate and grease the press. Take a portion of the dough and press into hot oil. Fry till the ribbon pakoda is golden brown. Drain and remove from oil.

  4. Serve immediately / store in air tight container once cooled.

Recipe Notes

  • If the dough is too stiff,you will not be able to press it out. Add a few sprinkles of water and knead again and try.
  • Cover the dough until a batch is being fried.
  • The oil should not be too hot. Keep the flame in medium while frying.
  • You can use pepper powder instead of red chili powder.
  • Also cumin seeds can be used instead of sesame seeds.
