Multi-Millet Savory Porridge Recipe

A simple porridge / kanji that can be had for breakfast / as an evening drink.

Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup Multi millet flour
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Curd
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 1 number Red chili , broken
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions

  1. Take water in a pan and put in the flour. Whisk well so that there are no lumps. 

  2. Heat this mixture on low - medium flame and keep stirring. The mixture will thicken .Let it cool. Take this mixture in a vessel.

  3. Whisk yogurt with a little water and add it to the multi millet paste. Put in salt and whisk well.

  4. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard and cumin seeds.When the cumin crackles, add curry leaves and red chilies. Pour it over the porridge and mix well.

  5. Serve garnished with  coriander leaves.

Recipe Notes

  • I made the mutlimillet flour by roasting barnyard millet, broken bajra and red jower separately. Powdered it together after it cooled down and then added a little ragi flour.
  • You can use store brought flour too.
  • The same can be prepared with ragi flour / any other millet flour.
