Vazhakai Porriyal Recipe

A simple curry made with raw plantain

Ingredients

  • 2 no.s Vazhakkai / Raw Plantain
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp Channa dal
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 3 tsp Idli milagai podi
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Grated coconut

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube the raw plantain.

  2. In a pan boil water with turmeric powder and add the cubed plantain.Cover and cook on medium heat till it is cooked through but not mushy.Drain and keep aside.

  3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds,urad dal, channa dal and curry leaves. Once the dal turns brown and mustard pops, add grated ginger ,the cooked plantain and mix.

  4. Add salt, red chili powder, idli milagai podi and grated coconut. Mix well and cook on low for a few minutes and remove from pan.

  5. Serve as a side with lunch...
