Palak Dal Recipe |Vegan Recipe

A simple side prepared with spinach/palak and dal.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Palak, washed and roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup Moong dal
  • 4-5 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Split urad dal
  • 1 tsp Channa dal / Gram dal
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 2 no.s Red chillies, broken
  • 1 no. Onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp Sambar Powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash Moong dal and take it in a small pressure cooker/ Roughly chop palak and add it to the dal along with a few cloves of garlic. Pressure cook it for 10-12 minutes / till done. Mash well with a ladle/masher. Keep aside

  2. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard, cumin, split urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves, and broken red chili and saute a little till the mustard pops and the dal turns brown. Switch off flame and keep aside

  3. Add chopped onion and saute till light brown

  4. Bring the mashed dal to a simmer and add sambar powder, salt, and sauteed onions. Mix well.

  5. Palak dal is ready to be served with steamed rice.
