Palak Dal Recipe | Vegan Recipe with step-by-step pictures.
This Palak dal recipe is one of the simplest and quickest dishes to prepare when you are in need of a quick meal. I am writing this from experience! I made this dish and paired it with a quick potato curry and the cooking was done in less than 45 minutes and it includes the rasam and the rice that was served alongside.
A couple of days back. I was mindlessly scrolling on Instagram when I came upon this recipe on Traditionally Modern Food’s page. I was so thrilled that I could make it the same day as hubby had got a fresh bunch ready to be used.
So I made this one with a little change here and there to suit our taste and we literally scraped the serving vessel clean. Now that speaks volumes, right?

Let’s see how to make this Pakal Dal Recipe
Wash Moong dal and take it in a small pressure cooker/ Roughly chop palak and add it to the dal along with a few cloves of garlic. Pressure cook it for 10-12 minutes / till done. Mash well with a ladle/masher. Keep aside

In a pan, heat oil and add mustard, cumin, split urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves, and broken red chili and saute a little till the mustard pops and the dal turns brown. Add chopped onion and saute till light brown. Switch off the flame and keep it aside.

Bring the mashed dal to a simmer and add sambar powder, salt, and sauteed onions. Mix well. Palak dal is ready to be served with steamed rice.

Enjoy the dal with some potato curry and crisps on the side.
