The first thing that comes to my mind at the mention of the word Goa is the sandy beaches.I have never been there but seen that place in a lot of movies and have read about it too.So when Denny of Oh Taste and see announcedFlavors of Goa,an event started by Naina of Simply.food, I wanted to visit that place.Since it is not possible for the time being, I cooked a few Goanese dishes.
When I googled for Goanese dishes , I found this in Tarla Dala’s site and I liked the way it was cooked with spices and all.More over it was in the microwave so easily done.
I used:
Potato – 1 large
Tomato – 1 large
Salt to taste
For the paste:
Onion- 1 small,peeled and sliced
Red chillies – 4
Poppy seeds- 2 teaspoons
Coriander seeds- 1 teaspoon
Cumin seeds- 1 teaspoon
Cinammon- a small piece
Cloves- 4
Peppercorns-10 numbers
Garlic cloves- 4,chopped
Freshly grated coconut- 2 tablespoons
Oil- 2 teaspoons
Grated coconut to garnish
1.In a microwave proof bowl, put in chopped tomato and microwave on high for 2 minutes.Remove the skin and keep aside.
2.In another microwave proof bowl, combine all the ingredients under ‘for the paste’ and mix well.Microwave covered for 3 minutes
3.Peel the potato, cube and microwave with enough water for 5 minutes or till soft but not mushy.
Drain and keep aside.
4. In a blender put in the ingredients for paste and tomato chunks[without water] and blend to a smooth paste.
5.In a microwave proof bowl, put in the potato and the ground paste and microwave on medium for 3 minutes.
Remove from heat and serve garnished with coconut flakes/ grated coconut.
Bon Appetit…
