What if co-incidences in our lives are nothing but a result of a dice thrown by some higher being? What if, to the heavens, our lives are nothing but rows of dominos ready to be put into action?
What if we all are mere pieces of pawns carefully played upon by a cosmic chessmaster?
‘That Thing About You’ is an uncommon story of a common man rejected in love.
This is a story of a man walking on the path of self-discovery.
Subodh, a regular IT employee, is perceived as an immature man by everyone, but he isn’t bothered until his love interest rejects him citing the same.
Although dejected and crestfallen, he soon befriends an unusual, mysterious woman who knows everything about him and seems to have all the answers.
Soon, his life goes through a lot of unexpected turns—from doubting his sanity and visiting a psychologist to a failed arranged marriage attempt made by his parents.
Everything in his life seems to be in fast-forward mode. One thing that does not change, however, is this unusual “friend” of his who refuses to reveal her identity and chooses to appear at her whim.
Who is this mysterious woman? Why is she prying into his life? Where will this strange friendship lead him? Is some impending danger awaiting Subodh or is it something else altogether?
Looking at the cover one might get the feeler that it is a regular love story with the usual drama! But that’s not what it is! Actually I did start reading with this concept in mind but as the story went forward, I knew this is not just another love story!
This is the story of Subodh, an IT guy , who behaves very immaturely and also gets rejected in love. He is dejected and then life takes a turn!
The characters are well formed and so is the story line. The language is simple and easy to follow.
There is a lot going on in this book – Love, rejection, mystery, philosophy of life, power of love and so on.
Also things that are still considered a taboo in our society like counselling and therapy are told in such a way as to demystify these and makes one feel comfortable with the decision to seek professional help.
It is also kind of helpful in understanding things better, like destiny, the subconscious mind and there are a take away points in the story as well.
The emotions which Subodh initially goes through when he hears a voice in his head is well written.
The author has made twists and turns in many places that makes one want to read further to know what would happen and in the unexpected place there is a twist again!
The best thing I liked about this book is that this a different genre and different from the regular plots-a genre that has not been fully explored so far!
The cover aptly portrays the title though its not what it seems to be! Intriguing right!
I felt the book was a bit lengthy. Some of the descriptions could have been shorter.
Yes , go for it. A different story line and an engaging one too!
