Sammy is an 80 year old billionaire, who finds himself at the peak of his success built on a mountain of sacrifices. He decides to participate in a life he missed to live.
Eleven months in a year he leaves behind his identity and money and allows his curiosity and his willingness to experience anything – death even, to take him on life changing adventures and experiences across the world.
Loaded with wisdom, surprise, humor and an eagerness to embrace life, The Wise Man Said is a collection of twelve such adventures of Sammy, where his journey becomes his greatest achievement – a life well lived.
What really caught my eyes as soon as I received the book was how nicely it was packaged and then the beautiful cover!I fell in love with the book almost instantly!Check out my Instagram post and I’m sure you will love it too!
As mentioned in the blurb, this book talks through the experiences of Sammy who keeps wandering and going places where his legs or destiny takes him and is in the form of 12 short stories.
The book starts with writer Naina facing a writers block and has to meet the deadline of the latest book. Out of ideas and motivation she reaches a secluded spot to draw inspiration for her new book and that is where she meets Sammy.
She talks to him and notices something different in him and his attitude. After a little chat, she falls asleep and wakes up to find Sammy missing. She also finds her scarf missing and notices that Sammy has traded it for his diary.
She reads his diary and finds out that he has traveled to a lot of places and each visit to a place has a story and a moral or life lessons.
To each place that Sammy has traveled he has faced some situation or gone through some experiences / emotions that he writes in his diary and at the end of which the lessons that he learnt from those experiences are given as pointers.
This book is a self help book sort but you don’t get that preachy type of advice and all. The perspective of each story through Sammy’s experience makes it look more approachable .
The writing is not complicated and is easy to read and follow.
All of Sammy’s adventures and experiences are a good read and so are the P.S,P.P.S, P.P.P.S,P.P.P.P.S….
Loved the life lessons / quotes at the end of each story/ chapter that is given as points.
Here are some of my favorites…
- You are as you choose
- I have a lot to undo. I am starting with me.
- Life is lived in now.
- Adventures lie in moving forward, not in retreat.
- Wealth has never been the source of wisdom.Wisdom, however, can be the source of wealth.
- Your unsolicited help could prove to be a curse for someone.
This is not like a one time read. It can be used as a reference sort of book where you can go back , reread and apply those life lessons.
The life lessons / moral that are within each story is like a gem that can be treasured! You can surely go for it for its crisp teachings and clear writing!
