About 8-9 months back, I was looking for some easy savories that can be made at home and packed with the sweets that are shared with the neighbors during Diwali.Many of us chatting on Whatsapp and Priya suggested this easy Murukku.
I made a really huge batch and everyone appreciated it.The kids loved it so much that I had to make another batch right after Diwali!.
Even today when I was writing this post, the kids remembered this snack and I will be making them again tomorrow!

Rice flour -2 cups
Asafoetida powder- a large pinch
Butter- 4 tablespoons
Salt to taste
Dry roast the rice flour for a few minutes and take in a big bowl.Add ajwain, asafoetida, salt.
Pressure cook potatoes and peel. Take in a blender jar along with butter.
Grind to a smooth paste adding a little water. Add this paste to the flour mixture and knead to a smooth dough,adding water if needed.
I used a star plate for the murukku press.Take a portion of the dough and fill in murukku press and press out a murukku on a ladle and gently slide into hot oil.Lower the flame slightly and fry till the murukku is golden brown.Remove from oil.
Another method of doing this pressing out the murukku on a plate. Gently slide a flat ladle and transfer into the pan with oil.
Serve as a snack or share with friends. Store the left overs in an airtight container.
- Cumin can be used instead of ajwain
- Don’t skimp on the butter. It adds a nice flavor and crunch to the snack.
- I used homemade rice flour . You can also use the store bought flour too.
