We are now on week 2 ,Day 3 of the blogging marathon series – Fire up your oven, where we are doing a month long baking marathon.I am really enjoying posting for this series and hope you too are enjoying this journey with us.
Today’s post is a simpler and easier version of yesterdays Hidden hearts cup cakes.I made this using the cake mix that Kamalika has put into the goodie bag when we met for the Blogging Marathon # 50 celebration.
I baked this as soon as I was back from the trip and after I baked the cake, this idea sprang up!!The kids, as usual, were delighted to be treated with bakes.
The cupcakes look like a regular one at the first glance. But when you bite into them , the sugar hearts gives a nice crunch and a colorful surprise inside!!!
I used:
Kamalika’s Cake mix which has the following
All Purpose flour-1 cup
Cocoa powder- 2 tablespoons
Powdered sugar-1/2 cup
Baking powder -1/2 teaspoon
A handful of chocolate chip
To this I added
Yogurt-1/2 cup
Melted butter -1/4 cup
Milk- a little less than 1/4 cup
Vanilla essence -1/2 teaspoon
Take the cake mix in a bowl and add the yogurt, butter, essence, milk and mix to combine.Do not over mix.
Pour into prepared cupcake tins and bake @ 180 degrees for 15 minutes/ done.Check around 12 minutes for done-ness.Cool on wire rack.
Gentle cut the top of the cup cake and using the same cookie cutter that you used to make sugar hearts, cut a small piece of cake as shown.Place a sugar heart and close the cupcake with the other part.Use different colors for each cupcake.
Place the cut part on top and serve dusting with icing sugar / with a frosting….
Note:
- You can use any cake recipe for this and follow the idea.
- You can also use heart shaped cake pieces like we did for the Hidden hearts cup cakes instead of using the sugar hearts.
I had no idea what sugar hearts were until I checked your other post. Such a cute idea and these cupcakes are lovely.
