A few days back, I was waiting near our gate for Lil Angel’s school van to pick her up. This is a sort of daily routine where we just chat about school, her friends and stuff and that day the van was pretty late! Lil Angel was starting to feel upset as she felt she would be late for her exams!

The van came and when I was about to close the van door, one little boy who was a year older that Lil Angel screamed ,’Aunty cockroach!’. The cool me asked ,’Where’? The little boy looked a little puzzled and upset when the other student in the van started giggling .I gave a blank look and then  closed the door and the van sped off.

I came inside and told MIL that a little boy had tried to ‘scare’ me! I am not allergic to the sight of cockroaches. As far as they maintain their distance and come no where near me, it really doesn’t bother me much!

Then after a while, one of my friends had sent a message …

Please Note:
April Fool’s Day is only for singles,
The married have their anniversary….

I had a hearty laugh and that’s when I realized the boy was actually trying to play a prank on me for April Fools day! And I also understood why the boy looked a bit upset! I wish I had played along!

I had completely forgotten that it was April 1st and was going about my work.Well, for one, I didn’t even notice the date!

That lead me to recollect the school days where we used to wait to play pranks on our friends. Once one of the girls in my class even got those rubber lizards that look like the real ones and threw it on another girl while the class was going on and you can imagine the consequence!

And of course, each one of us would try hard to be bold or at least pretend to be bold when the other person says something that would make us jump. How I miss those days!!!

And that’s not all I miss! There are those parents day programs for which we used to get called during class hours for practice.I used to wait for the program leader to come from class to class asking the participants to assemble at such and such a time at the assembly hall. I used to happily miss the classes!

I also miss stealthily eating cream biscuits ducking under the desk coz I just couldn’t control the urge to take a bite[Yes, during class hours] and almost got caught once when the teacher came looking for a strawberry fragrance in the air! Those were good old times and it’s so nice to sit back and recollect them!

Talking of cream biscuits,I still love them.Bourbon biscuits and strawberry flavored cream biscuits are my favorites even now.The kids love it too.Actually,I feel most of the kids love cream biscuits. And cakes, that’s another of [mine and] their favorite.

So I combined these two in one by hiding the biscuits inside the brownie batter! Now if you ask me if my kids liked it, then I will just say it disappeared in less than an hour. You can decide how good it was.

The kids kept asking if I had to click pics or if they can start right away. I was waiting for it to cool so that I could slice it up for the clicks. I had a hard time trying to keep myself and them taking a bite!

I wouldn’t say this is a good pic but I can vouch for its taste. I was being hurried and was in a hurry to taste it and having done 2,3 bakes in a day, my creativity started vanishing as the hours flew by and this was all I could manage to set up and click.

This is the 5th post for Surprise Inside Cake series that I have taken up for the month long baking marathon themed Fire Up Your Oven….

I used:
Loosely adapted from this base recipe

All Purpose flour- 1 cup
Cocoa powder- 1/2 cup
Powdered sugar- 3/4 cup
Instant coffee powder- 1 teaspoon
Yogurt-1 cup
Oil-1/3 cup
Baking Soda- 1 teaspoon
Chocolate chips-a handful
Strawberry cream biscuits- 1 packet[7 numbers]

Sieve together all purpose flour, cocoa powder, instant coffee powder, baking soda, powdered sugar.Transfer into a bowl.

In another bowl, combine oil and yogurt[not in the pic].Add this to the flour mixture and mix to combine.Do not over mix. Add choco chips and mix gently.

Pour half the batter into a greased and dusted pan and arrange the biscuits as shown. Top it up with the remaining batter.Sprinkle some more chocolate chips on top.

Bake in a preheated oven @ 180 degree C for 25-30 minutes [oven timing will vary] or till done.A skewer inserted in the middle will come out clean.

Remove from the oven once done and let it sit on the pan for a few minutes. Then invert the pan gently to remove the brownie and cool on a wire rack

Cut after it has cooled completely….

Note:

  • You can use any cream biscuit of your choice.
  • Sugar is powdered and then measured.
  • I used Bru instant coffee powder.
  • If the batter is too thick add spoon fulls of warm milk ,one spoon at time till you get the right consistency. It should not be too watery or too thick.
  • Nuts of your choice can also be added.
  • Adding choco chips is optional. But it increases the taste and the beauty of the brownie.
  • Oven timings will vary.So keep watching it after 20 minutes.
