There are so many dishes out there that differ by just a bit but are closely related to another dish all the way across the globe!Yes, yes, and these Tortillas is just an example…
This dish was supposed to have been up long, long ago but I never really got around to make them. And then finally I made this for Blogging Marathon #56!!!!
The research that I carried out lead me to so many recipes that talked about the main ingredients and how to make them at home.
The main thing most of the recipes talked about was the importance of lard and the addition of baking powder.Naturally, I left out the lard and added melted butter instead of it.Also many sites recommended cooking the tortillas on a cast iron skillet. I generally cook chapathi/ roti on cast iron skillet and so cooked these too on it.
And since APF is no longer welcome in our kitchen , I have used Wheat flour….
I used:
Wheat flour – 2 cups
baking powder- 1 teaspoon
Melted butter – 1 tablespoon
Salt to taste
Take the wheat flour, baking powder, salt, melted butter in a bowl. Mix well.Add water little by little and knead to a smooth , elastic dough.
Once the dough has been kneaded well, cover and keep aside for 15 minutes.Pinch out lemon sized balls and roll out into thin tortillas
Cook on a heated till skillet till small brown spots appear on each side.Once done remove from the griddle and keep covered in a kitchen towel.
Serve them as such/ with a side of your choice / use this as a base to create other Mexican dishes…
Note:
- Vegetable oil can be used instead of butter.
- Some recipes that I referred to did not use baking powder. So I guess it can be skipped…
Take a look at all that was served so far on The Buffet On Table…
