Instant Oats Rava Dosa Recipe with Step by step pictures

Rawa / Rava Dosa is one of those dishes that I prepare when there is no stock of the regular idli / dosa batter in the fridge. It also happens to be our breakfast when we get bored of the regular idli and dosa Ironic isn’t it!

So, I made this last week adding oats flour to the rava dosa batter. There was no difference in taste and only after I told my folks that it has oats did they ask me if I really added oats!!

This is an easy breezy dish and kids will love this crispy dosa.

This is my third dish with Oats as the sub theme in the protein rich diets themed Mega Marathon.

Step by step method to prepare Instant Oats Rava Dosa Recipe

Dry roast the oats for 2-3 minutes till a nice aroma arises. Roast on low flame and take care not to burn it.

Take the powdered oats flour, white rava, corn flour, salt ,asafoetida powder, salt .Mix well.

Add water little by little and make a batter without lumps. Add cumin seeds, finely chopped coriander, curry leaves and onions. Mix well and check the consistency. It should be way more thinner than the regular dosa batter consistency.

Heat a griddle and pour the batter from above the griddle in a circle. Do not spread. The dosa should have lots of holes. Flip it over after a couple of minute. This takes a little longer to cook than the regular dosas.Remove from griddle. Repeat for the remaining batter.

Serve hot with sambar and chutney of your choice..

  • The batter thickens on standing. So adjust consistency by adding a little water.
  • Also on standing, the batter will be watery in the top as the solids will settle below. Give it a mix before you prepare each dosa.
  • You can add crushed peppercorns / chopped green chilies / grated carrots etc.

  1. Oh wow ! That’s a lovely dosa , nice and crisp and like Priya says lacy ! The pores in the dosa make it look pretty as well as light . The addition of oats is definitely a healthy option ! PJ seriously I am hungry at this hour of the morning :))
