With Onam festival coming up next week, I thought it would be nice to prepare something that is special for the day. I chanced upon this Pazham Payasam Recipe | Kerala Style Banana Kheer and I read that it is a part of the Onam meal / occasion.
Nendaram / Nendran variety banana is used for this dessert and it makes a lot of difference in the taste. First I made this with the Morris variety banana and it tasted more like a warm banana milkshake. So be sure to use Nendaram variety for this dish.
This super simple payasam is the 6th and final dish for Week 1 where we are showcasing the Sweets of India in the Sweets and snacks series.
If you have noticed, I have showcased sweets and desserts with fruits / vegetables in them. They are not very exotic but I think they are simple and so can be made quickly and they are something that my kids enjoyed.
Next week we will be showcasing Indian snacks from one of the states. I still have 5 dishes to prepare and yet I am so excited to start the next weeks posts.
