Instant Bread Idli Recipe / No fermentation idli Recipe
The solar eclipse ended a couple of hours ago and many astrologers have predicted that the virus may disappear / the spread will slow down after this eclipse. Though I don’t believe too deeply in astrology, I sincerely hope their prediction will come true.
The cases are on the rise in my city and it is turning to be pretty scary. We go out only to buy essentials yet this situation is not making us feel comfortable.
With things going on like this and we being indoors, it feels like I’m in the kitchen most of the times! And when the dishes are repeated it is met with a sad face!
The need to prepare something new and different made me search for a different idli variety as the Husbandman loves idli!
So this bread idli was made as it looked similar to rava idli recipe , I had half a loaf of bread and the kiddo like rava dosa and will eat this without complaint plus this idli recipe is of the instant types where we don’t need to wait for the batter to ferment. It was a win-win situation!

Here is how to prepare Instant Bread Idli Recipe
An instant no fermentation required idli recipe made with left over bread slices.
- 1 cup Bread Crumbs
- 1 cup White Rawa
- 2 cups Curd / Yogurt
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds/ jeera
- 1 tsp Channa dal
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- Curry leaves- few, chopped
- Coriander leaves, few, chopped
- 1 sachet Eno Fruit salt

Take the bread crumbs , white rava, salt in a bowl and mix well.

Add curd and mix well without lumps. Add a little water if needed.

Cover and set aside for 15 minutes.

In the mean time, make preps for the side dish [chutney] and grease idli plate and get the streamer ready.

Heat a small pan with oil and add mustard, channa dal, jeera, urad dal and once the mustard pops and dal turns brown, pour into the batter.

Add curry leaves, coriander leaves and mix well.

Empty the sachet of fruit salt into the batter and add 1/4 cup water over it. It will start frothing.

Mix gently and immediately pour into greased idli pan and steam till cooked/ 10 minutes / when a skewer comes out clean when inserted in the center.

Remove idli plates from steamer and gently remove the idli using a spoon.

Serve immediately with a side of your choice.
- You can grind bread slices to make bread crumbs.
- I did not trim the edges of the bread.
- Adding the seasoning [mustrad ,dal etc] is optional but I strongly recommend it.
- The batter should not be too runny or too thick.Adjust the quantity of water to get the suitable consistency.
- Prepare idli as soon as you add the fruit salt. This batter should be used up in batches but do not store in the fridge and use later.
- The idlis taste best and have the best texture when served as soon as you take them off the idli plates.
