Paneer Kambu sevai / Semiya recipe is an easy breakfast dish that if both filling and nutritious.
Millets are available in many forms here. Whole millets , parboiled millets,Millet flour, Millet semiya, millet noodles etc.
I often but kambu sevai / ragi sevai and prepare a quick breakfast using these. This sevai is also called Semiya and is a popular dish around here.
A couple of weeks back, I got a huge pack of kambu sevai and today when I was looking to make something easy, I decided to make this Paneer Kambu Sevai recipe !
So here is one of our favorite Kambu Sevai made all the more nutritious with the addition of paneer!
This is the third dish for Cooking with millets theme for Blogging Marathon #113, Week 2.
- 200 grams Kambu Sevai
- 50 grams Paneer, cut into small cubes
- 1 no. Onion, sliced thinly
- 1 no. Tomato, chopped 1
- 1 tsp Sambar powder
- A pinch Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard leaves
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Channa Dal
- 1 no. Red chili, broken into 3 bits
- A few Curry leaves
- Salt to taste

Soak the kambu sevai for 5 minutes

Heat a vessel for steaming and grease an idli plate / dhokla plate.

Drain the water and spread the sevai over the steaming plate

Steam for 10 minutes and remove from heat.Open the steamer and let it cool a bit

Meanwhile, heat a pan with oil and add mustard , cumin, channa dal , curry leaves, red chilies.

Once the mustard pops and dal turns brown, add onion and saute till soft

Add tomato and cook till mushy

Add paneer,turmeric powder, sambar powder, salt and mix well.

Add the steamed sevai and mix gently till combined.

Serve as such or with coconut chutney
- Chili powder can be used instead of sambar powder.
I have seen millet sevai in grocery stores here too. Will have to buy the next time I go there. Love the addition of paneer in this dish – makes it filling and wholesome.
A healthy twist to the traditional semya by incorporating millet and paneer in the dish. It must have tasted amazing.
Paneer is a new addition for me to this dish. It Would make it a very special breakfast ๐
Wow this is really a fantastic twist PJ..very nice..I am also yet to find millet sevai here..will have to try it.
I have ever seen ragi sevai here in the stores. This kambu sevai is a fantastic find and would make a healthy addition to the breakfast menu. Love the addition of paneer here.
