This Homemade butter recipe has been on my mind for as long as I can remember but it’s just now that I am able to post it here.


We have been making butter from cream for as long as I can remember! Mom and her friends used to gather in our garden in the afternoons and spend some time chit chatting!

Sometimes it would be in my neighbors garden. And kids were not allowed to be a part of the gang even when we were on vacation. It used to be the me-time for the ladies!

I always used to watch them talk and exchange gossip and invariable either mom or one of her friends used to it there shaking a bottle of cream. By the time the gathering ended, the bottle would have a huge blob of fresh butter!

After we shifted to another town, mom started using the mixie jar to churn the cream into butter. I use an electric beater /blender.

You can use any of these methods and make fresh butter at home in just 10 minutes!

And the ghee that we make from this butter is totally out of the world and so is the butter!

In this post I will share with you the method that I use to make butter at home. Like me you can use a blender or a mixie for this prpcess depending on the quantity of cream you are using.

I gather fresh cream after boiling the milk and collect it in a stainless steel / plastic container and store it in the fridge.Once I have a couple of containers full, I prepare butter.

Here is the step by step guide to prepare Homemade Butter Recipe

Boil milk and once it cools, remove the cream from the top of the milk. I collect the cream in a stainless steel / freezer proof plastic container and keep in the freezer.

Once the container is full, remove from freezer and leave it out to thaw.Transfer the cream into a blender jar and add a few ice cubes [optional] and use the whipper mode in short bursts of 5- 10 seconds.

After a couple of minutes, the butter will start separating and after another minute the process will be complete. You can see the butter seperate and the liquid will be separate.

Transfer this onto a sieve [keep a bowl below to collect the buttermilk] and let it drain completely. Gather the butter to make a ball and put it into a bowl of fresh water. ‘Wash’ by gently rinsing in that water and remove and again keep it in another sieve to get rid of as much moisture as possible.

If you do not have cream from milk and need butter, you can also use store bought cream. I used a 200ml amul fresh cream pack for this post.

Take it in a vessel . I used an electric blender and let it run on low for a minute and then on high for a couple of minutes. As you can see the butter separates completely once the process is complete.

This butter can be used to prepare flavored butters like this chili garlic butter / use to make ghee or just spread it on you toast and enjoy!

Note:

  • Use ice cubes / chilled water while whisking, it will speed up the process.
  • I found the cream collected at home and used to make butter tasted better than the commercial one.
