Jamun Chia Pudding recipe is the first of the series of #30days30dishes cooking challenge that I came across on instagram.


A group of food bloggers are doing this 30 days cooking challenge with a theme each.

My daughter suggested exotic themes like pies, cookies, cakes, ice creams and other fancy stuffs, but did not insist on those as she has been watching me juggles various works throughout the day.

Finally she came up with this no cook series and I agreed. It is doable and I don’t need to spend too much time in the kitchen.

So for the next 30 days you will see a lot of quick and simple no cook dishes and these are not just juices and salads!!

Here is the first dish for the series

Jamun Chia Pudding Recipe

Chia seed which is considered to be a ‘super food’ comes from the Chia plant, a flowering species of the mint family native to South America.

These seeds are said to possess several health benefits and of high nutritional value.Some of them are as follows…

  • It is packed with omega 3 fatty acid which is important for the brain health.
  • Good source of fiber
  • Improves heart health
  • Good source of protein , phosphorus and Manganese, Calcium
  • It is loaded with anti oxidants.
  • Chia seeds are said to lower blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes.

 It soaks up a lot of water so helps the body be hydrated for longer periods.
The soaked and sprouted seeds are considered a better way to take them in as the nutrients readily/ easily available to the body.

Jamun fruit is also called Black Plum / Java Plum. Locally [in tamil] it is called Nagaa Palzham / Naaval palzham. Other names include Jambolan,   Neredu, Nerale, Jambul, Jamali.

It is in season during summer and has numerous health benefits.It has a slightly sweet taste with sour and astringent undertones.

Let’s see the health benefits of this fruit. Due to its astringent property, it keeps the skin clear and free from acne. It has anti bacterial and anti inflammatory properties. Here is how to prepare this simple and easy Jamun Chia Pudding Recipe

A delicious and no cook recipe using chia seeds and Jamun fruit

Course: Dessert

Ingredients
  • 10 no.s Jamun Fruit
  • 2 tbsp Chia seeds
  • 1.5 cups Coconut milk
  • Honey – as needed
  • Nuts / seeds to garnish
Instructions
  1. In a bowl, take the coconut milk, chia seeds and honey. Mix well to combine.

  2. Let it sit for min. 4 hours / till the chia gels up well. I left it the fridge overnight.

  3. Scrape off the pulp from the jamun fruit and puree it. Discard the seeds.

  4. Mix one part of the puree to the chia mix and mix well.

  5. Place one portion of the chia jamun mix in a serving glass/ bowl and top it with a little jamun puree and garnish with your choice of nuts / seeds

  6. Repeat for the second portion.

Recipe Notes
  • Regular milk or any vegan milk can be used instead of coconut milk
  • You can also add a bit of fresh yogurt to the mix.
  • Any sweetener can be used instead of honey.
