Homemade Moringa / Drumstick leaf powder recipe with step by step pictures.

If you have been following my blog , you might be aware that we have drumstick tree in our backyard. A few months back we had to chop the tree because it got infested with worms.

One side of the tree had some branches that were good so we kept that aside and chopped off the rest. I was literally heart broken. It is this tree that I see from our kitchen window everyday and I missed it so badly.

Luckily a few days later it rained and then the tree got back to life and within a month it was filled with new branches and now it has returned to its former glory.

So, as I telling earlier, we gathered the good branches and distributed quite a lot to our neighbors and we still had some left. So I decided to dry it.

As I had stock of the drumstick leaves spice mix, I thought of making some Moringa powder and keeping it in the freezer and use it as needed.

Check out the 10 recipes that makes use of drumstick leaves / Moringa leaves.

I use a simple technique to seperate the leaves from the stalk. I roll the stalks in a newspaper and leave it aside. The next morning, the leaves will be seperated from the stalk . The smaller ones need to be removed manually though.

Once the leaves are ready, Wash them in water , drain dry them on a newspaer / cotton cloth. Once the moisture has gone, dry roast it gently on low flame till slightly crisp. Powder and sieve if needed.

Store in an airtight container. If its a huge batch, store in the fridge. You can use this powder in dosa batter, chapathi / poori dough, add to gravies and any other ways you can think of using it in other dishes!!

  1. I understand that it must have been hard to chop off a part of the tree. Glad that you could save a portion of it. We are feeling sad for our backyard garden as cold weather is looming for us. This moringa powder was a great way to save those leaves.
