There was a time when I used to enjoy ordering Pizzas. Then it to buying the bases and doing the topping of my choice. Now I make everything from the scratch!
For the second day in the Bake-a-thon, here is a simple recipe for a pizza base. This is something that I am very much pleased with and has not failed me. Make this base, bake it and store it in zip lock bags in the fridge and enjoy pizzas of your choice!
Since this has become my favorite way of making a pizza base, I felt it should have a post for itself!
I used:
Adapted from Sharmis Passions
Yields -8- 5″ Pizzas[Thin crust]
Whole wheat flour- 1 1/4 cups
Instant yeast – 1 tablespoon
Milk – 1/4 cup
Water- 1/4 cup
Sugar- 1 teaspoon
Salt- 1/4 teaspoon
Oil- 2 tablespoons
Milk for brushing over the pizza
In a bowl, take the flour, yeast, salt and sugar.Mix.Add
oil, water and milk and knead to a smooth dough.Add milk first and then
add water little by little till you get the right consistency.
Knead well .The dough should be smooth and not too sticky.Add a little
flour if its too sticky and a little water / milk if it is too
hard.Cover and keep till it doubles in volume. After it rises, punch out
the air.
Divide the dough into balls and roll out into thin discs. Use a lid to
mark out circles. Prick with a fork and brush a little milk over the
base.Place the pizza base on a greased tray. Bake at 180 degrees for 10 minutes or till the top turns light brown. The timings will vary depending on how thick / thin you roll them out.
Once baked , place on a wire rack to cool.
Use the base immediately to make a pizza with a topping of your choice.Or you can store the completely cooled bases in zip lock bags and store in the fridge. I made a huge batch and it stayed good for more than a week.By then we finished the whole stack of bases!
Bon Appetit…
I do prepare my pizza bases this way and freeze it for later use, well done PJ.
Useful post dear
Nice idea to pre-bake and freeze pizza bases as these are kids favorite and homemade gives us some peace of mind!!!
Homemade pizzas are always better as we can customize the toppings to our taste. Pizza bases came out good.
Homemade crust makes the pizza fresh tasting. Refrigerating fully cooked crust is an interesting idea.
These pizzas are healthy and taste good too.
