If I say that I cooked something on the spur of the moment ,then it has to be this easy Besan Toast recipe!
This week I have chosen ‘Get a toast ready for dinner‘ as the theme for Blogging Marathon #76,Week 1. After yesterdays sweet Banana peanut butter toast, I wanted a savory toast.
It is quite simple to prepare and was enjoyed by the kids with tomato sauce. When dishes are accepted by the kids then I can assure you that it is a hit recipe!
Besan also known as Chickpea flour / Kadalaimavu is the coating for the bread and I cooked it on a cast iron griddle.
It was only after I clicked the pictures , I realized, grated carrot, finely chopped capsicum could have been added to the recipe!Since this was a hit with the kids, I might make this again with a few additions.
Step by step method to make Easy Besan Toast
I used
Besan – 1/4 cup
Rice flour-2 tablespoons
Chili powder- 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder- a large pinch
Cumin seeds- 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Finely chopped coriander- 2 tablespoons
Finely chopped onion-1
Bread slices- 4
Take the besan and rice flour in a bowl and mix. Add chili powder, turmeric powder, salt cumin seeds, onion and coriander leaves.
Mix well and add water little by little to form a thick batter. Dip a slice of bread into the batter and coat the batter on both the sides of the bread.
Heat a griddle and cook on both sides till crisp.Do not burn the toast. Cut into triangles and serve.
Easy Besan Toast is ready to be served!
Note:
- You can add finely chopped capsicum , grated carrot to the batter.
- If you prefer soft toast, cook on low flame till the raw smell of besan disappears and then remove from griddle.
- Ajwain / bishops weed can be used instead of cumin seeds
- Adjust chili powder to taste
- Finely chopped green chilies can be used instead of chili powder. Since I was serving this to the kids I did not want them to bite into the chilies so used red chili powder.
