If you had read my previous post, you would be aware that I am doing restaurant recreation as the theme for this months Blogging Marathon and the second dish recreated is this Vegetable Uthappam Recipe

I generally use either tomato or onion as the topping for the upthappam. So I made this one with vegetable topping that I recreated from a restaurant nearby.

Annalakshmi Restaurant is a part of Shivanjali Trust that has numerous charitable organisations under its wing. Be it empowering women by giving them training in arts and crafts to free to subsidized treatment cost in their hospital, this organisation has been silently yet steadily spreading its areas of service to the needy.

One of the areas that Shivanjali Trust has covers is this Annalakshmi restaurant. It has two different concepts. One is a fine dine that must be experienced at least once.

A couple of years back our blogging marathon team had a group dinner there and all of us loved the food and the service!

The other concept is ‘Eat as you wish, pay as you like’, where the bill is not provided after the meal.An empty folder is placed on the table and any amount can be paid for the meal! No questions asked and no one calculates the bill!Isn’t it a novel concept.

Many of their staffs right from those who cook to those who serve you are volunteers and they do so with a smile!

There are branches in Coimbatore and Chennai and some places abroad as well.

So, this vegetable uthappam is something that we all love to have there and is one of the ways that Lil Dudes eats veggies!

I made this at home during the holiday and we all enjoyed this simple yet delicious breakfast.

Just like the Morekuzhambu sevai recipe, this one too does not have an elaborate method!

Heat a tawa and add a large ladle full of batter, do not spread it out. Simmer and add grated / finely chopped veggies like carrot, onion, tomato, cabbage etc. Sprinkle a little idli podi and cover and cook till done.Sprinkle some coriander and serve hot with sambar / chutney.

I generally cover and cook on only one side as the kids like the colorful veggies on top.But you can also flip it over and cook.

  1. Wow, that’s such a unique concept with regards to payment! They trust their customers a lot to pay as per their wish… ๐Ÿ™‚ The vegetable uthappam sounds delicious, since like you mentioned, usually it is onion and tomato…

  2. I still remember our dining there. It was awesome. And I have also gone to the Coimbatore restaurant with family. This vegetable oothappam is so colourful and sounds so easy to make.

  3. The uthappams look colorful with the addition of more vegetables than usual and it’s a win win situation if the kids are enjoying the veggies without complaining.
