By 2020 the fight over resources, growing unemployment, and corruption push a densely populated island in the Indian Ocean into civil war. Kal, only a schoolboy at the time, finds his life radically altered by the conflict.

Now, returning after fourteen years of refuge in Australia, he encounters a place transformed into a beacon of peace and organisation. But there’s something odd about the order. Does a fringe group hold answers?

The story takes place in two different time periods as two parts of the book – 2020 and 2034.

In the first part that takes place in 2020, The Isle of Flora in the Indian ocean is rampant with corruption and unemployment.Life there is so chaotic. It is in this condition that our Protagonist – Kal is growing up in. He is a childish school boy who is deeply attached to his grandfather.

With things deteriorating at his end, Kal goes off to Australia and returns back to his homeland in the year 2034.

He has a faint memory of his homeland but on his return he sees things that look normal but are actually not so! And that is the intriguing part!

So, here is what I liked about the book.

Firstly , the narration is simple and easy flowing.

The plot line effortlessly flows from one part to another [2020 and 2034]

I like Kal’s childishness and how he gets along with his grandfather. In a world where even children don’t spend enough time with parents, this type of relationship is so refreshing to the mind!

This book sort of tells you where the world is actually heading towards. Though it is a fictional story, we can see so many similarities around us!

From what the author has written, points can be taken and hence it also becomes something like a self help book.

The cover is beautiful and I loved it.

The only thing I found a bit on the downside was the story in the middle which dragged a bit and I felt the pace could have been faster there.

Yes, it is a nice read. The ending is nice and we have from nice take away points in the book too.

Over recent years he has lived in Bangalore in a building teeming with environmentalists and politically charged artist sorts, and in an old Portuguese house in Goa in the midst of snakes, dogs, and disappearing cats.
