In this meal, the simple vegetable rice can also double up as the lunch menu that is to be packed for the kids and vice versa.

For sambar, we generally use the sambar powder that we prepare once a fortnight. But sometimes we use the freshly roasted and ground masala paste . The taste and the consistency of the sambar increases several folds when the fresh masala is used. I will post that recipe someday but until then this simple and delicious shallots sambar is the new recipe of the day.

Kandanthippili is Indian long pepper and a spice with several medicinal properties. It is usually available at the local herbal medicine shops or Naatu Marundhu Kadai.

The Quick Beans curry is flavored with Kholapuri masala and it tastes so good!This masala was a part of the BM meet goodies bag that one of our BM buddies shared with us. The homemade masala added so much deliciousness to the simple beans stirfry!

The carrot salad is a nice addition to this meal and is one of our favorites too.

Finally , the quintessential curd / yogurt that is a must with every lunch meal.I can never imagine a meal without curd! Homemade curd is so easy to prepare and is a probiotic that has numerous health benefits and one of the good sources of proteins and Calcium.

  1. I am bookmarking this thali , my hubby always wants me to make simple thalis , but I am never able to do them . Now I will be able to make them with these bookmarked ones .

    The meal looks delicious , and tempting !

  2. We love such simple thalis and I make sure this is done for the sat meals…very well captured one PJ. The rasam is surely a new one for me as I have read about it, though yet to try my hands on it..will check out.
