Review of Deepak Kaul’s book – 2050

  • Title –  2050
  • Author – Deepak Kaul
  • Format – Ebook
  • Print length – 85 pages

This is a very different book that I have read in a while! It talks about the past and how the future will be i.e. in 2050.

The book starts with the protagonist recollecting the memories surrounding the Hurricane Katrina in the year 2005, New Orleans, when he was just a 5 year old kid. Not only did the hurricane wreck havoc, it displaced more than a lakh people and all of them were from the most disadvantaged strata of the society. The problems faced by the community and all the relief materials not reaching them is brought right in front of our eyes.

He then moves on to talk about the foolery created around the Presidential election where Trump won!

And then comes the COVID 19 screnario which tossed the world around. There were changes for people in all walks of life and in all stratas of the society. This was the time that the world saw life with a different eye!

Finally we get to see the glimple of the world that would be in 2050.

This book talks more on the political screnario in the States. While reading the initial chapter I was surprised to see the people in a country like America suffering from the after effects of a Hurricane and how the relief work / materials almost never reached the distraught people! The hardships faced by these people is really very moving.

The author has written all the events be it political, environmental, migrants problem, the change of the police behaviour , agricultural growth, envioronmental effects and the like very lucidly.

Though this is a small book, I took some time to read it to understand it better. And since I am not into politics, I needed to fully assimilate what was being said. I must say that this book has some strong political views and I had to read through slowly!

The language is simple and writing is crisp.

You can read this one if you like non fiction and have an inclination towards political fiction.
