Quick and delicious Jamun Chia Smoothie Recipe
A few years back, we bought Jamun plums by the kilo and used them mainly to try out recipes. Most of them were a hit and due to the color the kids’ didn’t mind eating the healthy stuff!This Jamun Chia Smoothie Recipe is one such recipe that the picky eater of the house enjoyed!
Nagapazham / Indian Java Plum / Jamun fruit is one of our favorite fruits and when it is in season we love to eat loads of these.
In fact, it is so popular and easily available here and there are a couple of tree too in our neighborhood! During the peak season time, you can see hundreds of these fruits fallen on the road and in the early morning times, there will be a couple of kids and adults picking the freshly fallen fruits!
If you are hearing about this fruit for the first time, here is the pic and some information about it.
Jamun fruit is also called Black Plum / Java Plum. Locally [in tamil] it is called Nagaa Palzham / Naaval palzham. Other names include Jambolan, Neredu, Nerale, Jambul, Jamali.
It comes from the tree Syzygium cumini .This tree is native to the Indian subcontinent and its adjoining regions. It is said to have spread to the other countries through Indian emigrants.
It is in season during summer and has numerous health benefits.It has a slightly sweet taste with sour and astringent undertones.
Let’s see the health benefits of this fruit. Due to its astringent property, it keeps the skin clear and free from acne. It has anti bacterial and anti inflammatory properties. It is said to be good for Diabetics. It is loaded with Potassium and is rich in Vitamin A and C.It is also a good source of anti oxidants and flavinoids.
Even the seeds are used in the treatment of diabetes in Ayurvedic and Sidha Medicine.
So here is that delicious smoothie that I was talking about at the beginning of this post…
The recipe is quite straightforward. Blend a bunch of ingredients, chill and it is ready to be served. Anyways, sharing them here with the ingredient and the quantity so that I will remember what all went into this beverage so that I can make my little picky eater taste this once more!
A colorful and delicious drink that will please the kids and adults alike
- 10 no.s Jamun / Java Plums Seeds removed
- 1 no. Small banana,chopped
- 1 tbsp Chia seeds,soaked in water for 15 minutes
- 200 ml Fresh thick yogurt
- A pinch Chia seeds to garnish
- Honey,if needed

In a mixie jar take the jamun fruit and blend well. Remove a tsp of the pulp for garnish and keep aside

Put in the soaked chia seeds, a little of the yogurt,honey,banana and blend well

Transfer this into a bowl,add the remaining yogurt and mix well

Add more yogurt / milk to get the desired consistency

Serve chilled with a bit of chia seeds and jamun pulp for garnish
