One of the benefits of living in an individual house is the blessing of having a backyard all for ourselves. We have a few trees in our backyard.A drumstick tree, gooseberry tree, a few coconut trees, curry leaf plants and a few jasmine plants grace the back yard.
We are having a bumper crop of drumsticks this year. Almost everyday something made of drumsticks pops up on the table. Lil Angel loves this so much that we don’t mind having it every day in one form or the other.
A few days ago, after distributing drumsticks to almost every house in our neighborhood, we still had half a dozen left on the vegetable rack. I racked my brains and thought of making a soup with it.
Soups are most preferred to warm us up in winter and is most apt for this week’s theme of Blogging Marathon- Seasonal recipes. And this also forms a light meal in summer when you are too bored to make a snack…
This soup is supposed to be good for asthmatics and those suffering from diabetes, low blood pressure, arthritis etc.It is also said to aid weight reduction. Drumstick has a positive effect on the nervous system and hence it is also good for people with nervous disability and paralysis.
I used :
Drumsticks – 4
Split green Moong dal – 1/3 cup
Tomato – 1
Salt and pepper to taste
Coriander leaves to garnish
1. Wash and chop the drumsticks.Pressure cook with a little water for 10-12 minutes. Once the pressure releases, scoop out the pulp and keep aside.
2. Pressure cook moong dal and tomato with enough water till the dal is well cooked. You can pressure cook the dal and drumstick in two different containers and pressure cook together.
3. Puree the dal-tomato, drumstick pulp.
4.Transfer the pulp to a pan and bring to boil. Adjust the consistency by adding a little water.
4. Serve hot seasoned with salt and pepper, garnished with coriander leaves….
This soup is quite filling and can make a light meal too…..

I miss my backyard drumstick tree here, soup looks super filling and hearty PJ.
fresh drumstick is very expensive here – about 6.99/lb. but I have a bag of frozen drumstick I bought a while back because I wanted to try this veggie and have yet to do so. Now you reminded me of the bag in the freezer ๐
