Long before Quinoa was gaining popularity in my part of the world, the blogosphere were filled with recipes with Quinoa and I remember admiring the shakes and smoothies. I used to wonder how it would taste like.
After a while, when I saw a couple of packs at the store nearby,I almost fainted looking at the cost. And when Usha asked me if I wanted anything from the US when she came to India last winter, I shamelessly asked her for a pack of quinoa.
Finally I got to make this delicious shake and was able to find out how it tasted!
I used:
Serves-2
Cooked Quinoa– 1/4 cup
Banana-1,small, roughly chopped
Coconut Blossom sugar- 1 teaspoon
Coconut milk– 150ml [ add more if needed]
Garnish of your choice – I used corn flakes, tutti frutti, roasted, chopped almonds, raisins.
Take all the ingredients [except the garnish of course!] and blend till smooth. Serve immediately garnishes with your favorite crunchy toppings.
Makes a filling and healthy drink!!!
Note:
- Coconut milk can be replaced with almond milk or the regular milk.
- Similarly, regular sugar, unrefined cane sugar can be used instead of coconut blossom sugar.
Bon Appetit…

Thats a very interesting blend of flavours PJ. Quinoe banana milkshake must have been amazing.
PJ, I am glad you asked and it was my pleasure to get it for you. Seeing all your quinoa recipes, now I am tempted to give it another try. Shake looks great and must have tasted wonderful with coconut milk.
I remember when I used to buy quinoa at 10$ a pound, way too expensive to even U.S. standards considering that is not even half a kilo. Even now I buy at about 4 dollars per pound and it doesn't matter that much considering that I am the only one at home who loves it. Your shake sounds interesting. I haven't tried to incorporate quinoa into a drink yet.
Shake with quinoa sounds very interesting. Will have to try it out some time.
