Simple Peas Pulao Recipe with step by step pictures
I know that I have already posted a quick peas pulao but here is another one with a variation of course!
I bought back kilos of fresh green peas from the farmers market when they were in season.During the season , I shell and freeze them to use later.If interested check out this post on How to freeze green peas because it a great way to preserve them when in season and use them through out the year without the need to buy frozen peas from the market! So, there were are loads of frozen peas in the freezer and a little extra in the fridge too. The pack in the fridge started sprouting and I had to use it up soon.I made lots of peas based dishes and here is the other version of peas pulao.
This pulao also doubled up to pack for the kids lunch box and we had it for lunch too.It is a no fuss, no grinding required recipe and so apt for the morning rush time!
Here is how to prepare Simple Peas Pulao Recipe
A quick and easy one pot meal
- 1 teaspoon Ghee
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon Ginger garlic paste
- 2 numbers Cloves
- 1" piece Cinnamom
- 1 number Cardamom
- 1 number green chili,slit
- A handful Mint leaves
- 1 cup Basmati Rice
- 1 cup Fresh green peas
- 2 cups Water
- Salt to taste

Heat ghee in a pressure cooker

Add cumin. When it crackles, add mint leaves, ginger garlic paste, green chilies and whole spices. Saute for a few seconds

Add rice and peas and give it a mix

Add water , salt and mix once more.

Pressure cook for 12-15 minutes/ till done

Once the pressure releases, open the lid and fluff up the pulao

Serve with a crispy and Raita
- Use the regular amount of water you add to cook rice. I use 1:2 ratio for the brand of Basmati rice that I use .
- Add more green chilies for a spicier version.
- You can add fried cashews as a garnish
Step by step method to prepare the Simple Peas Pulao Recipe
Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds. When it crackles, add green chili, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and mace.
Next, put in the mint leaves, ginger garlic paste and saute for a couple of seconds. In goes the peas and rice.Give it a mix.
Add water and salt and pressure cook for 3 hisses / 12- 15 minutes/ till done. The cooking time will vary on the type of rice used.Once the pressure releases, open the lid fluff up the rice gently.
Serve with a raita and a crispy.
