This homemade Instant Rava Dosa Mix Recipe is a really a boon to have in the kitchen ! Preparing rava dosa becomes a breeze with this handy mix!


This recipe is from my mom’s recipe bank! She has this brown diary [dated 1984 !]where she has hand written quite a lot of recipes for future use. She has some interesting recipes and I have been trying out some of them and they are really good. This Instant Rava Dosa Mix Recipe is from that same book.

We are huge fans of rava dosa and keep making it often. Then when I found this reicpe , I made a sizable batch so that we can make it whenever we get a craving!

With ingredients that are already present in the kitchen and a few add on’s, and best of all no preservatives ,this is one of the best ready mixes to have in the bulk!

A handy readymix to prepare crispy rava dosa

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Rava [Roasted]
  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 1/2 cup Maida
  • 1 tbsp Gram flour / Besan
  • 2 tbsp Pepper ,Divided
  • 2 tsp Cumin seeds , Divided
Instructions
  1. Grind the rava , rice flour,maida,besan along with 1tbsp pepper and 1 tbsp cumin seeds

  2. Spread on a plate to cool.

  3. To this mix add the remaining 1 tbsp pepper and 1 tbsp cumin

  4. Mix well and store in an airtight container

Recipe Notes
  • Instead of maida you can use wheat flour.
  • Millet flour can be used instead of rice flour
  • Add salt while preparing dosa
  • To prepare dosa, take a portion of this mix and make a runny batter with slightly sour buttermilk / water. Add salt. Let it rest for a few minutes.Mix well and prepare crispy rava dosa.
  • You can also add finely chopped onion / coriander leaves / grated carrots.
  • Store in an airtight container.
  • This can be made as a large batch by grinding it in a flour mill. We have one nearby so it is a blessing! You can grind this is a mixie too in batches.

Isn’t this a super simple mix to have handy!

To prepare Rava dosa with this mix all you have to do is take a portion of this premix and mix with water / slightly sour curd to make a batter of pouring consistency, thinner than dosa batter. Make Rava dosa as usual and enjoy the meal.

You can also add a combination of these…

  • Finely chopped onions
  • Corinader leaves
  • Grated carrot
  • Grated beets [for color] etc
