The Podi sevai recipe is something that I turn to when I want to quick breakfast or dinner. Also, it gets handy to have freshly pressed Sevai[Rice Noodles] available nearby and when there are no vegetables or things that can be added to sevai, this podi savai surely turns into a savior.


There are plenty of versions of Sevai varieties on the blog if you are looking for an easy breezy yet flavorful meal. These ideas will make your meal planning a lot easier

The kids too love all these Sevai varieties and a couple of days back I tried this Podi Sevai Recipe to see if it will work out and fit into our breakfast / Dinner repertoire. And it did! So this recipe is kids approves!

All you need is a few teaspoons of your favorite podi [spice mix] and you will have a tasty and filling quick meal! The dish tastes best when served piping hot. It goes well with coconut chutney / Tomato onion chutney and even a bowl of plain curd will be an apt side.

You can use your regular Idli milagai podi or this Kollu Karuveppilai podi , Drumstick leaves Podi , Pumpkin seeds powder or the simple Milagai podi made with black urad dal.

Easy Breakfast / Dinner idea using fresh Rice noodles

Course: Breakfast, Main Course
Cuisine: Indian
Ingredients
  • 200 grams Freshly pressed Sevai / Rice noodles
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds / Jeera
  • 1 tsp Channa Dal
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 2 no.s Red Chili , broken
  • 2 tsp Roasted Groundnuts
  • 1 no. Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp Idli Milagai Podi . adjust to taste
  • Salt to taste
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan

  2. Add mustard,cumin,channa dal, urad dal , curry leaves and saute till the mustard crackle and the dal turns brown

  3. Put in the curry leaves, red chilli, roasted ground nut and fry for a few seconds

  4. Add the onion and saute till translucent

  5. Put in the rice noodles, salt, and podi and mix everything gently. Keep the flame on low /sim

  6. Remove from pan

  7. Serve hot with a side of your choice.
