This Cabbage Raita Recipe makes a quick and tasty side to go with any briyani / flavored rice dishes.
A couple of weeks ago I made this Cabbage Raita Recipe as a side for the millet potato rice and the combo was really great. The millet potato rice was a bit spicy and the raita was soothing.
I did not tell anyone in the family that it was cabbage that went the raita. Instead I asked them to guess the ingredient and all the guesses came out wrong.
It was only after lunch was over did I mention about it and nobody was ready to believe it was Cabbage raita!
I like to try out raita with any ingredient that I find and you can find around 50 Raita Recipes on the blog. Yes, I love raitas to the core! You can prepare this curd based condiment with vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts and the possibilities are limitless!
Steaming the finely grated cabbage and squeezing out the water removes any unpleasant taste. Also using grated ginger in the seasoning adds a nice sharp taste to the raita. This is the ingredient that masks the taste and smell of cooked cabbage.

I have never steamed cabbage for raitas , we normally chop it fine and add directly . The crunch is excellent and makes it really delicious.
Yes Vaishali, the crunch will be so good, but you know na, my picky eater will not even touch it!That’s why I steamed it!
